Contributed post. In 2025, there were an estimated 847,522 home burglaries across the country. And while this number has dropped from the previous years, this is still a significant number of homes being accessed by individuals who don't reside there or have no authority to be at the property. And having your home burglarized is extremely worrying and unsettling. But how can you effectively protect your home, give yourself peace of mind, and ensure you're safe at all times? These following security options are exactly what you need to deter burglars and protect your home. Install a Multi-Camera Security System Cameras are essential in a modern age for security. Capturing real-time footage on cameras means you instantly know who is in your home and what is happening. And when these cameras are connected to your personal devices, meaning you can check them from wherever you are, you can get immediate help, and this matters. A multi-camera setup means you can cover larger areas of your property at once. From the driveway to the front door, and side entrances, garages, windows, etc., 16 channel 4K NVR camera systems, for example, give you room to expand your setup and cover more areas for complete visibility everywhere, whenever you need it. Add Motion Sensor Lighting Darkness is a criminal's best friend, and you need to eliminate any opportunity for them to hide and access your home without anyone seeing them. You need motion sensor lighting here. Motion sensor lighting is security lighting that activates when it detects movement within its coverage area. Let's say someone is snooping around your home's side entrance. As soon as they come within close proximity to a motion sensor light covering this area, it will illuminate, alerting you or others to their presence. This alone can be enough of a deterrent to make them change their mind, especially if they think they've been seen already. Upgrade Window and Door Locks A lot of break-ins don't occur that way; people seem to think they do. In reality, homes are exposed due to ineffective locks, worn hinges, or older style windows and doors that don't take much to gain entry. Upgrading locks on all windows and doors is a good place to start. Having solid deadlocks on doors or reinforced strike plates offers more protection. Secure window locks, especially on ground floor windows makes it more difficult for burglars to gain access without causing a scene or making their presence known. Secure Deliveries Doorstep delivery thefts have become rife across the country, and people frequently drive around looking to steal packages that have been left on doorsteps as no one is home. If you have regular packages delivered, you need a safe, secure delivery drop-off point that deters people from trying to steal them or signals your home is empty and when during the day. A lockable delivery box or having a secure entry area that can be unlocked for delivery personnel remotely and relocked as they leave is a good idea, i.e., if you have a porch door and then your front door, you can install a remote locking system to open the door when they arrive so your deliveries can be put inside while keeping your home locked. Once the delivery personnel leave, you then lock the porch door behind them to secure your packages.
