Hanging Them Too Low

A really common mistake people make is not having their curtain high enough, and this makes a huge visual difference. Most people tend to hang their curtains directly above the window frame.

Doing this shortens the wall and makes the window look and feel smaller than it actually is, and the result is a room that feels lower and more closed than you probably wanted.

A simple fix for this is to hang the rod or the track as close to the ceiling as you can get it. Then choose curtains that trail all the way to the floor as far down the wall as you can get them to go. This look gives the whole window a more polished look. Higher hung curtains draw the eyes upwards, giving the illusion of height, while the floor length stops them from cutting the wall in half and making strong lines where you don't want them.

Going with Ready-Made with Non-Standard Sized Windows

Ready-made curtains are made for standard-sized windows. Which means they rarely fit non-standard windows well, if at all. If your windows are taller, wider, narrower, shorter, etc or they're just an awkward size or placement, then ready-made curtains are always going to look slightly off when you hang them.

There'll be issues such as gaps where they won't be needed when closed, the length not covering the entire window, or they simply just looking wrong when opened or closed.

The curtains will be created as per the exact measurements you need in the materials of your choice for an altogether smarter, seamless appearance when in use.

Skipping the Lining

Unlined curtains are a common way to save money on new curtains; however, if your windows are a feature in the room, or you're looking to pull together a complete aesthetic, then you need to avoid unlined curtains at all costs.

Unlined curtains look cheaper, don't hang as well, and wear out faster. When you purchase curtains with lining, they have additional weight to the fabric, meaning they will drape better and hang with more structure.

But beyond the practical benefits of lined curtains, you can find that the material will be better protected from sun damage, which is beneficial in bright rooms, and they'll wear better and look better. This means avoiding unlined curtains when you're looking for new ones and going straight for higher-quality lined curtains for your windows.
