Contributed Post. Your home should feel like your own oasis. You should look forward to coming home and feel comfortable when you are. Unfortunately, many people are living in homes that aren’t quite cutting it for them, but they don’t know what to do about it. Sometimes, budget can be an issue, and other times, it can be difficult to know where to start. There are so many trends going around and inspiration on Instagram; it has gone from being inspirational to overwhelming. Instead, it is important to focus on things that promote relaxation and bring you joy. This might involve changing colors around your home, incorporating natural materials, and hanging more artwork and plants up. For other people, this might mean a whole clear-out or renovation to completely change their home. It is important to figure out what you want and need from your home, so you can begin to take steps in the right direction. Here are some top tips that are very small, simple, cheap, and easy to do, to help you make your home your own. #1 Clear out clutter and get organized This can be one of the biggest things that changes your home. You might have great decor, but something still doesn’t feel right. Unfortunately, when your home is messy and cluttered, you are not going to feel good about it. It can feel overwhelming and chaotic. Before you make any drastic changes to your home, have a good clear-out and declutter. Send bigger items off to the scrap yard for recycling, donate items that could be used by others, and repurpose stuff that you want to keep but are outdated. Take some time to reorganize your belongings. Sit with the new space for a short while to see if decluttering has improved how you feel in your home. #2 Incorporate more calm To make your home feel more like an oasis, it can be helpful to incorporate more calming and relaxing elements. Start with soft, neutral palettes. You could use these colors to paint on the walls, or perhaps in artwork or decor items around your home. Calming vibes can be created by using natural textures around your home, like cotton and wood, as they can increase your connection to nature indoors and add warmth. Soft furnishings can help create a comfortable environment as well as visual interest. Consider textured throws, rugs, and cushions. #3 Cozy lighting Lighting can make a huge difference to how you feel in your home. Depending on what kind of vibes you want to create in your home, you can utilize smart lighting controls, natural light, soft lights, and candles. Maximize the natural light in your home by opening curtains and windows, and keeping them clean and free of obstruction. Natural light is a great mood booster. Soft lights can be created by using lamps and fairy lights around the house. This is a great option for a cozy and relaxing home. For a more soothing and inviting space, use some candles to help create some ambiance in your home. Making your home your own doesn't have to come at a huge cost. These small changes can make a huge difference in how your home feels.
