It took me 4 months to get around to it, mostly because of being super duper busy all the live long day! But I finally took Miny Moe to the next level, i.e. being official and legal with the law! I decided to go with a sole proprietorship because at the level we're at now, it's not worth the extra effort and expenses of going for an LLC. So, all there was left to do was register a Business Certificate with the Kings County Clerk's office for "Doing Business As" Miny Moe. Cost me a whopping $120 and a venture to the Supreme Court in Brooklyn Heights (carrying 20 pound Kenzo in his Mei Tai wrap... so heavy.....). Basically, you purchase the Blumberg X201 form ("Business Certificate"), fill it out, and have it notarized all at a little kiosk across the street for $14, or was it $16? Shoot, now that I think of it, I didn't get a receipt. Damnit... Then you march over to the court house which is all big and intimidating, go through their metal detectors, downstairs and to a series of counters: you hand in your certificate one place, pay at another, and pick up the your certified copies at another. I was SHOCKED at how un-busy it was. It literally took me 5 minutes to proceed through the stations. I asked if it was always so quiet and they said yes, so I made some joke about it being the easiest government office I've ever been to and they chose good in working here and not the DMV! LOL. If you're looking to register your own business in New York, go here for more details. In other Miny Moe news, I'm working on starting collaborations with some great baby planners and maternity concierge companies. What's that you ask? Will have a guest post coming soon to tell you all about it!
I've also just added a custom pack - $10.99 for 10 diapers mixed and matched as you like from any of the 7 brands in any of the 3 sizes we carry!! So, if you don't want to bother with all 6 brands in the regular pack, but just want to try out a couple of the budget brands, or if you want to see if the greener brands are worth the hype, this is the pack for you!

I was a big fan of Amazon for a long time. It seemed you could get everything on there cheaper than anywhere else. But, I have just discovered awesomeness of the Quidsi family, otherwise known as Diapers.com (baby care), Soap.com (health, beauty and household essentials), Vine.com (natural and organic goods), BeautyBar.com (luxury beauty), Wag.com (pet products), YoYo.com (toys), Casa.com (home and houseware essentials), AfterSchool.com (kids' sports/activity gear), Bookworm.com (children's books) and Look.com (kids' clothing). Prices are comparable to Amazon, with free shipping over $35, but in this case shipping is 1-2 days (Amazon usually takes a week or so). I've only ordered a couple of times, but every time I've gotten an e-mail within an hour saying my stuff has shipped, and it's on my doorstep the next day. Crazyness!! They're also really smart in building loyalty. They stuff coupons in with each shipment, and have a referrel program that benefits both the referer and the new shopper (*wink wink* Enter in my code "MINYMOE" and get 20% off your first purchase, from each site!). On top of that, they have random sales, online coupons that magically appear in your checkout cart, and free sample boxes. To give you an example of the kind of savings you can score, here's what I got from my latest purchase for $13 (I used a $10 off coupon and free shipping promo, and they threw in a small sampler as well): Awesomeness, am I right?? Who's loving Quidsi?? Or... dare I ask... is there a better site I don't yet know of??? ^_^
One of my fellow Mommy Nearest Expert Mom's just published a new children's book, and Kenzo and I were lucky enough to score a copy for review! Yay!! It's a super cute board book that helps kids learn interesting tidbits about different animals. It's interactive in that it gives you clues about which animal it is with a snippit of the animal's image as well. Then you turn the page and see if you were right! Of course Kenzo wasn't exactly yelling out his guesses, being all of 7 months old, but I had fun with it (he had fun with it in another way, slobbering and gnawing on it!). The only one I missed was the **SPOILER ALERT** arctic fox, I mean, come on, who can guess that one??? It's short and sweet with cute rhymes and graphics. And what's more? The price is right, too ^_^ Hooray! You won't break the bank with this one, and it'll make a nice addition to your baby's every growing library!! I can't be the only new mom out there who is completely overwhelmed by the prospect of baby proofing our home. I don't know if the tininess of our home makes matters better or worse. Sure, there is less space to worry about, but the space there is is much more densely packed with stuff just waiting to kill or maim my child! Someone with a large house might be able to completely baby proof a couple of rooms, moving dangerous items and power cords to other "off limits" rooms. We don't have that luxury unfortunately.
I've had baby proofing on the back burner for quite some time, but now that Kenzo is officially crawling around I've really got to get on it. I'm considering one of those huge play pens that would take up a majority of my living room, but would keep baby out of reach of the TV and sockets and shelving units and such. But I'm going to wait and see if it becomes really necessary or not. For now my method is this: Kenzo has 4 "safe zones" where he can be left unattended for a short time: crib, pack 'n play, exersaucer, and high chair. Anytime he is not in a "safe zone", it's man-to-man meaning I don't leave Kenzo's side! When he yanks on the coffee table's table runner and nearly knocks over a glass of water - action - table runner is removed. When he tries to bite the computer's power cord, repeatedly, and when he tries to pull up on the shelving unit, these are added to a list of "to be babyproofed ASAP" items. I try to avoid protecting him from every single bump and bruise. As he's quickly approaching the edge of the table and I'm sure he's gonna bump his head right into it, daddy pipes in as I'm reflexively reaching out to protect little one, "He'll learn." *BUMP* "WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" I guess he will learn, but when? I think I've said "Don't Touch!!!" in harsh scary tones a bazillion times and he's not learning yet... So how about you guys. When did you baby proof and how did you go about doing it without overwhelming yourself and going in circles til your head spun?? Are you a play pen parent or of the let them roam free thought? Knee pads? For a baby?? Seriously??? Yes, believe it or not folks, it's a thing! And you don't have to be a super anxious over-protective mama bear to get on board. Say good-bye to skinned or rug-burned little knees and say hello to a cute new accessory and peace of mind! Lil' Melon Baby Knee Pads come in 10 designs in 2 sizes (8-16 months and 13-36 months), and they even have gift sets (what a unique 1st birthday present!!). As my loyal readers will know, my lil' one just turned 7 months and is recently on the move. He's not properly crawling yet (i.e. not up on hands and knees) but is going army style like a snake. We have all hardwood floors in our apartment, so of course I was starting to worry about his poor little knees dragging along on the floor. And his knees get all red and irritated on the carpet at our favorite play gym. Ouch! So, I was really excited to try Lil Melon's knee pads! We got the elephant design, of course, since it's Kenzo's mascot. Gotta love their slogan: Prevent the bruisin' before they start cruisin'! There are no straps, you just pull them on and up like socks. The back has air vents, and the knee pad itself isn't hard - it's very thick but soft and pliable. The pad also has little silicone beads in the design to help give baby traction on slick floors (like ours). Here's Kenzo giving his new knee pads a test run! Once they were on, he didn't seem to notice they were there and he was on the move! They stayed in place, despite his wonky crawling techniques. But when it was time to take a break from crawling, he soon discovered something new and exciting to play with... And chew on!!! Anyway, I'm very excited to have these CUTE knee pads to get him through crawling and also when he's teeter tottering around the playground in a few months! Now if I just got him a helmet and wrist guards and elbow pads we'll be all set! HA! Forget it, just send me a zorb ^_^ You can buy Lil' Melon Knee Pads here today, or you can win a pair along with 10 other awesome baby products ($250 value) by entering my Baby Bonanza Giveaway HERE by September 18!
