Giveaway Review:  Sasha Sunflowa ABC Children's Books

9/5/2014

I'm a big supporter of fellow mompreneurs, well, when they've got a product I can stand behind anyway! From Nurse Purse to Lil' Cub Hub I've reviewed tons of their fabulous stuff on this blog, and here comes another!

Leena Danan has created a wonderful and unique series of children's books, Sasha Sunflowa: An Alphabet of Happy. In these books you will not find fantastical story lines with tons of characters and intricately drawn full page images. What you will find are short and sweet rhymes, each focused on a different how-to-be-happy theme featuring the main character, Sasha Sunflowa!
US-Japan Fam Review & Giveaway of Sasha Sunflowa Children's Books
There is a book for each letter of the alphabet, and each book's theme is based on a word that starts with that letter. For example, A's book's theme word is "always". Each book starts with "Dear Friends, These are things that you should do, so you can be happy, happy, happy, too..." and then it goes on to give some cute rhymes using the theme word. A-Book's happy-instructions include things like "Always make friends that are the best, but still be nice to the rest."
US-Japan Fam Review & Giveaway of Sasha Sunflowa Children's Books
Despite the big alphabet letter on each cover, these are not books for learning the alphabet per se, and they are not board books suitable for a young baby to handle. That said, they are fun to read with both young and older children as they teach great morals and have bright and cheerful (simple) pictures.

You can purchase Sasha Sunflowa books on Amazon for about $9 a piece, but...

A pack of 3 books (Volume 1-3: A, B, and C) is included in my $300 value Back To School Giveaway running through September 8.

Giveaway Review:  Kuli Kuli Beautiful Posters for Kids

9/4/2014

Some toys and decorations for kids are just plain tacky. I'm sorry. The kids may love 'em, I'm sure they do actually, but I can't justify letting such an eye sore take up residence in our tiny 1 bedroom home! There's no space for that! So, how to find items that will stimulate and even educate your children but not take away from the hard work you've put into decorating your home tastefully? I don't have all the answers, that's for sure! We moved into our new home 5 months ago and it looks like we just moved in! Yikes! My plan is: toys stowed away in closets and storage benches, and great artwork on the walls. With that in mind, I want to share with you an artist I met last month at the Rattled Expo in Brooklyn. Kuli Kuli's kid-friendly art is, well, beautiful!! Take a look for yourself:

I love how fun and colorful they are while at the same time being tasteful - something you could frame and just as easily put up in your child's room or in your living room! They're printed on very thick, nice, matte paper which oozes quality! Prices are in the $20-$60 range, some are offered in English or Spanish language, and sizes vary. Check out her website to see more of her great designs!

And hey, you can win her ABC Poster (in English or Spanish) as part of my $300 value 8-product Back To School Giveaway running through September 8!!

Giveaway Review:  PlanetBox Eco Lunch Boxes

9/4/2014

We're all doing our part to reduce, reuse, and recycle... right? So when it comes to your kid's lunches (or even yours at work), you know you should be using a reusable lunch box or bag. But it's not that simple. Plastic lunch boxes bring concern of BPA, phthalates, and all those baddies that can leach into your lunch. No thanks! So, I have a pretty cool eco-friendly option for you: PlanetBox!
US-Japan Fam Review & Giveaway of PlanetBox Eco Lunch Box
PlanetBox containers are made of stainless steel, which is dishwasher safe, non-toxic, non-leaching, recyclable, and doesn't pick up odors or stains like plastics do. They are also segmented (like the Japanese bento box!!), allowing you to separate foods and keep the meal more organized. They come in 3 different size options (each having several color options for the carrying case):

Launch ($50-$75)
* Holds about 6.5 cups of food
* 3 compartments, 1 dipper, and an extra glass dish for reheating food
Rover ($40-$60)
* Holds 4.5 cups of food
* 5 compartments, 2 dippers
Shuttle ($35-$40)
* Holds 3 cups of food
* 2 compartments, 1 dipper
We got our hands on the PlanetBox Shuttle, their smallest box, which I thought would be a good size for my little toddler. The first thing I noticed was that it's pretty heavy - one pound according to their website. I guess that's just one of the drawbacks of metal as opposed to plastic, but it's certainly not as heavy as a glass container would be, so it's kind of the middle ground in that respect. The metal container, and the way it snaps shut (which is easy for kids to open and close) made me feel like a boy scout from the 1950's! Ha! Definitely a unique style, in a good way!

You'll have an option of the carrying case you get (my son is in love with the blue alien one we got), and they come with matching magnets that you can use to decorate your lunch box with! Very cool, and easy to keep clean - just remove before you throw the box in the dishwasher, and rinse off the magnets by hand!! Here are a couple of examples:
Picture
Unfortunately PlanetBox does not seal water-tight, so you have to be careful not to include anything loose in there that is too liquidy. If you have a sauce, put it in the dipper container. If you have ripe sliced peaches or something, you might consider putting them in a water-tight baggy such as wet bag. And if you need to keep it cool you'll need to purchase their cold kit ($8), an ice pack made with purified water (yay!), which will do the job for up to 8 hours.

You can buy a PlanetBox on their website or you can enter to win one in my huge $300 value jackpot 8-product Back To School Giveaway running through September 8!

Giveaway Review:  Freshly Picked Baby Moccasins

9/2/2014

We always want to dress our little ones in something as cute as they are, am I right?? Budget, time, and energy can be limiting, but it's nice to have a few pieces that are totally drool worthy; that make you and everyone who sees them just kind of lose it in a chorus of "OMG That is just too cute!!!!!" Well, I've got some shoes that definitely fit the bill - baby moccasins by Freshly Picked!
US-Japan Fam Review & Giveaway of Freshly Picked Baby Moccasins
The first thing that gets you is how unique and adorable they are. But they'are also super comfy, durable, 100% genuine leather, and come in a bazillion different designs (tons of colors in regular leather, shiny, suede, and patterns such as camo, pineapple, bugs, you name it; some of them even have matching t-shirts and bags)! They have stretchy elastic around the ankle which means they'll stay on, but at the same time they're also super easy to get on and off (my son has a REALLY fat/thick foot which makes most shoes impossible to get on, but these were no problem!) And because the bottoms are soft soled and thin, they're the perfect choice for new walkers (though maybe not the best choice for hiking over rocks and broken glass, LOL)!! They come in size 0-10, which is about the age of infant through 4-5 years! Here's my little 20 monther modeling his new pair of Cherry Freshly Picked moccasins (he had a mini-meltdown when I took them off - he is so in love!!).
US-Japan Fam Review & Giveaway of Freshly Picked Baby Moccasins
If you're not sure what size to get, they have a sizing chart. I measured my son's foot and rounded up, putting him at a size 7. Unfortunately, they're WAY too big (if you can't tell from the photos - they stayed on no problem, but he had a good inch or so of empty shoe in front of his toes). He probably won't wear them for another half a year at least! Wahhhhh!!! Oh well, something to look forward to!

At $60 a pop, these shoes are definitely a splurge but ohhhhh wait - you can enter my giveaway to win a free pair (as well as 7 other awesome products for toddlers in my $300 value Back To School giveaway!!).
