$2500 NYC Born and Raised Scholarship

If you have a child born and raised in New York City, I have a very exciting scholarship to keep on your radar. And if that child just graduated from high school and will be attending college here in NYC in the fall, the time to apply is NOW!!
$2500 NYC Born and Raised Scholarship
The NYC Born and Raised Scholarship, funded by Attorney Ivan Diamond, awards $2,500 directly to the recipient's school, to be used exclusively for tuition and other educational expenses. It sounds too good to be true, right? Well, there is only one winner each year, and though the competition isn't huge (only 20 applicants last year, its first) the standards are high. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to apply, and applicants must submit a 3-page essay describing what New York values mean to them, and how they plan to use their education to improve their community.

Last year's winner was Jose A. Mendoza, a graduate of Harlem's A. Philip Randolph High School, where he earned a spot on Honor Roll all 4 years, was co-founder of the Math Club, served as coach assistant for the wrestling team, and played on the lacrosse team. To give back to the community, Jose spent time volunteering as a mentor, tutor and teacher’s aide. In his essay, he spoke of overcoming difficult situations involving domestic violence and time in shelters with his mother. He credited his perseverance and support of caring NYC teachers for his great success in school, which resulted in his acceptance at Columbia University.

The scholarship's generous benefactor, Attorney Ivan Diamond, was Born in Brooklyn, raised in Manhattan, and attended Stuyvesant High School, Hunter College, and finally Brooklyn Law School. Serving all five boroughs as well as Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland counties, Mr. Diamond focuses on the fields of personal injury, negligence and medical malpractice law and has assisted thousands of victims of negligence and malpractice obtain large cash awards for their pain, suffering and other damages. He is proud to be able to offer this scholarship to students in the great city that shaped him to be the person he is today.

Applications are due August 1, so if your child is eligible, please don't delay!! And if you know someone who may qualify, be sure to share this information with them today!
